A service set up by parents

Holler’d provides parent-managed phone numbers and approved-contact calling. An adult parent or legal guardian creates the account and manages each child’s number. Use a nickname for each line; we do not ask for a child’s date of birth, home address, school, or email.

What the service stores

We store the parent’s mobile number, sign-in and consent records, line nicknames and numbers, named safe contacts, shared-address-book preference, favorites, device assignments, subscription references, call status and times, caller approval requests, and messages sent through the service. Card details are collected by Stripe, not stored by Holler’d. Sign-in codes are verified by Telnyx. Sessions use secure cookies.

Calls and caller screening

Ordinary family conversations are not recorded by this application. Unknown callers are told that they are speaking to an automated assistant and that their answers are transcribed and shared with the parent. The service stores their self-reported name and reason for calling, plus whether they agree to an approval text. Telnyx processes call audio and AI screening, and its configured AI provider may process screening audio or text. We do not use private family data in public AI-readable pages.

Optional voice effects and live translation

Voice effects run on the phone device. If a parent enables translation and the child switches it on during a one-to-one call, both people’s audio is streamed through Cloudflare to OpenAI for translation. Short-lived transcripts may be processed to detect the other person’s language. Holler’d does not save translation audio or transcripts. We retain permission records, language preferences, and session times for access control and usage limits. Audio is played in an AI-generated voice; translation can make mistakes.

Translation currently requires a parent’s separate confirmation that the child is at least 13, unless the service has approved Zero Data Retention configured for younger children. Without that protection, the other participant must also meet the applicable age requirement. Each person must agree before translation starts. It stops when another participant is added. Enabling translation does not consent to AI training.

Optional use for AI training

Eligible call and text data may be used to train and improve AI models only under the separate, optional AI training permission described in our terms. Training collection is currently off, including for families who save an opt-in preference. We do not enable provider training opt-in for calling or translation. OpenAI API data is not used to train its models by default, but provider retention and abuse-monitoring rules may still apply when Zero Data Retention is not configured.

Before any training collection begins, we will provide the specific data categories, purpose, recipients, retention period, and deletion options, and obtain the additional verification and consent required from parents and other participants. You can withdraw your preference in Call options without losing calling or translation.

Who processes the information

Cloudflare hosts the service and database. Telnyx supplies phone numbers, calling, verification, and messaging. Stripe processes subscriptions. OpenAI processes enabled live translation and may provide caller-screening AI through Telnyx. These providers may retain information under their own terms. Holler’d does not include advertising trackers or sell family information.

Retention and parent choices

The application deletes call history, caller requests, and message content after 30 days. Processed webhook payloads are cleared after processing; retry and deduplication records are retained for up to 35 days. Account settings, contacts, device assignments, billing references, and referral credit records remain while the account exists. Parent sign-ins last one hour; assigned phone sessions last up to 30 days. Parents can remove contacts, change sharing, revoke devices, and cancel subscriptions. Contact support to request account access or deletion; payment records may need to remain for accounting purposes.

Texts and consent

Signing in requests a verification text. Parents separately consent to account and caller-approval notifications. Reply STOP to stop notification texts, START to resume, or HELP for help. Carrier message and data rates may apply. Caller approval texts are sent only when the caller explicitly agrees. Child-to-contact texting remains disabled until provider approval.
